Teatro Olimpico of Vicenza

The Olimpico is a revival of the structure of Roman theatres, but the cavea, or auditorium, squashed for reasons of space, is semi-elliptical instead of semi-circular. The Frons Scenae, or stage, is in the shape of a triumphal arch. The central arch seems to be its "Porta Regia", but at the same time presents the tripartite form of the grand facades of Palladian palaces. Palladio inclined the front of the stage to avoid the sensation that it might fall towards the cavea...

Villa Cordellina Lombardi

This villa, owned by the Provincia di Vicenza since 1970, was erected from 1735 to 1742 by the jurist Carlo Cordellina Molin on the plans of the architect Giorgio Massari.
The villa suffered serious damages because of the First and Second World Wars, and also because it was used as an establishment for the breeding of silk worms. Having passed to private property, it was admirably restored by Vittorio Lombardi between 1953 and 1956.

Villa La Rotonda di Andrea Palladio

In his own treatise Palladio included this villa among the town buildings "for proximity" to the town. The architect describes the surrounding environement with these words: "the place is one of the most pleasant and delightful that can be found, because it is washed by the navigable river Bacchiglione, on one side, and surrounded, on the other side, by beautiful hills, so that it looks like a very great Theatre".
